Vying for a “song of the summer” is always tricky business. Summer playlists are consistently crowded with upbeat pop music originally released in the late spring, making it difficult for songs released in July, August, and September to permeate the social veil separating popularity and obscurity. After all, your Sabrina Carpenters, Bad Bunnies, and Billie Eilishes of the world run in tight, exclusive circles. That being said, some songs the deserved but failed to reach your ears this summer may need a second shot at redemption. The following playlist, organized in no particular order, contains 40 of my favorite songs released over the summer months. With a limit of one song per artist combined with your assumed patience and open mindedness, there are a lot of songs you can give a second chance and make your song of the winter. Yes, “song of the winter” is a thing now.
