You’re in luck, because that’s exactly what you’ll get with the rhythm & blues/Rock n Roll/1950’s sounding group J.D. McPherson. Although many singers these days are born from musical families, J.D. McPherson grew up with a farmer and ex-army officer for a father and a minister for a mother. In a way, growing up on a farm in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma was perfect for McPherson, as he states, “Where I actually grew up was just completely removed from anything resembling a town or a city. It was an hour away from the nearest supermarket. What that granted me was a lot of isolation and when you are bored you tend to work really hard on your interests. I was granted a lot of opportunity to play the guitar, listen to music and read about music.” No I don’t want to live on a farm, but yes, maybe I am a little jealous of that lifestyle.

J.D. McPherson is certainly an interesting fellow. He claims to derive inspiration from artists like Fats Domino, Led Zeppelin, Pixies, and Wu-Tang clan. Now I don’t know about most people, but I basically read that like “I gain inspiration from Louis Armstrong, Pink Floyd, Stone Temple Pilots, and 50 Cent.” Look J.D., that makes no sense, but whatever helps you do what you do, keep doing it man!
