Not every music video is pretty folks, and this one frankly creeps me out a tad. Grizzly Bear is a psychedelic folk rock band (how one classifies themselves as those three seemingly very different adjectives beats me) from Brooklyn. New York that formed back in 2002. When the band first formed as a songwriting project, their name was created a bit nonchalantly on a whim as Ed Droste (vocals, keyboard) told himself, “Oh, this is fun, I’m just going to call this stuff Grizzly Bear. It’s actually just a nickname for an old boyfriend of mine.” It seems like the bands from the last couple songs of the day have been putting really minimal effort in their names, but hey, a band-less chap like me can’t be one to judge.
Two Weeks has been Grizzly Bear’s claim to fame, and is actually quite recognizable through part of the mainstream world. The song has been sampled by numerous hip hop artists including Childish Gambino, Chiddy Bang, G-Easy, K Flay, and Ground Up, while also being featured in several popular pieces of media including How I Met Your Mother, Gossip Girl, a Volkswagen Super Bowl commercial, and a trailer for Crazy, Stupid, Love. I’m not saying you’re out of touch with mainstream media if you haven’t heard this song before but…oh wait…actually ya that is what I’m saying.
