As the devolving millennial is subconsciously trained to crave more and more social adoration and consistent gratification, the classic phrase “beggars can’t be choosers” seems to be more prominent than ever. In other words, millennials want it all, and they want it now. Flight Facilities has taken these naive expectations and bundled them into “Crave You”, the story of a pompous young woman whose mindset is more common than most would like to admit. This woman is a classic example of someone having their cake and wanting to eat it too, but with the inspiration and influence of someone who’s life seems to have been shaped by a constant stream of social media “likes” and “favorites”. Describing herself as if she were a literal goddess by saying, “I walked into the room dripping in gold // A wave of heads did turn, or so I’ve been told” may point out her largest flaw in the eyes of the boy she’s obsessed with, as she tries so hard to promote herself as the featured display while also thinking she is devoid of judgement or wrongdoing. Be yourself lady, no one likes a show-off.

Flight Facilities, or the pair of Australian producers Hugo Gruzman and James Lyell, must find it frustrating to know that this original melodious version of “Crave You” has been eclipsed in exposure by the subsequent “Crave You – Adventure Club remix“. The remix is much more in your face, taking the self pity that the original publicizes and turning it into spirited emotion and outward anger. As a producer in this day and age, I’m sure that Gruzman and Lyell can’t be too frustrated knowing all too well that most every decent electronic song will inevitably get remixed and re-imagined by several other electronic artists. At the same time however, the original version of “Crave You” was still a hit in the duo’s domestic homeland, as it climbed all the way to #19 on Triple J’s Hottest 100 in 2010.
