For the last 7 years, this website’s banner has sported the odd phrase “HAPPINESS ONLY REAL WHEN SHARED”. That seemingly unintentional Caps Lock combined with curiously lazy grammar is no mistake. It’s a quote from the biographical novel/film “Into The Wild” (skip to the next paragraph to avoid any spoilers). The true story’s main character Christopher McCandless, aka Alexander Supertramp, decides to completely abandon his comfortable life in order to live off the land alone in the wilderness. After many months of living in complete solitude, McCandless accidentally eats a poisonous plant and begins physically withering until he finally crawls into his sleeping bag days later to die. While on the brink of death, McCandless continued documenting many heartfelt messages about returning to society and his family. These chronicles were accentuated by a final uppercase-laden message that read what is now this website’s creed.

Why would a music website showcase the sad realization of an failed survivalist from the 90’s? Well for one, “Into the Wild” is a great story. But more importantly, McCandless’s message of overwhelming regret is a testament to the importance of the collective. Whatever makes you happy likely makes someone else happy too. Our ability to empathetically feed of the spirit of those around us is a core tenet of human existence. As silly and ethereal as that sounds, it’s the entire reason that this website exists: to share happiness with you, whoever you are.

So if you need a little slice of happiness, congrats – you stumbled into the right place. This playlist contains two hundred of my favorite songs released over the past year in order from 1 to 200. Play each song in order if you can, shuffle if you must, but most importantly, keep your mind open to the distinct value that each song has to offer. Oh, and if you find something in this playlist that you like, don’t be scared to pass on a little happiness to someone else.
