Friends, it is freakin’ beautiful outside. If I’m being honest, although we’ve had a couple other nice days over the past couple months, this is probably the first nice day that I’m not somewhat concerned that the whole global warming thing is partially at fault for our fun in the sun. What better way to celebrate some glorious sunshine than will some of the masters of mellow, 311. Even if you’re stuck at work, school, or in the car all day, take a moment to take go outside and enjoy the world around you. As “Speak Easy” preaches, “If there’s a shadow in your life then there’s sunshine,” so “Lift the roof off your soul” and go outside!
Sure, we all recognize 311’s 90’s classic “Amber,” but most people don’t realize that the Nebraska natives have produced 11 studio albums, 2 live albums, 4 compilation albums, 4 EPs, and 4 DVDs. After a lifetime of success since 1988 with one of those albums going triple platinum, one going platinum, and three going gold, 311 are much more than what some naive listeners might consider as a one-hit-wonder. Despite such success they know their strengths and weaknesses, and interestingly enough had Robert Greenbridge, the steel drum player from Jimmy Buffet’s Coral Reefer Band, come in as a guest musician specifically for this song.
